Dobson Telephone has been serving customers in the rural communities in Oklahoma for over 70 years. They are now expanding the utilization of their large telecommunications infrastructure by entering the data backup and recovery market. They have now launched a new company called, CoreVault™, which will provide online data backup and recovery solutions to businesses. “We have been researching and putting together this new business venture over the last two years. There is a lot of growth and potential in this market as businesses are looking for better ways of backing up and restoring their data,” said Jim Rutherford, President.
CoreVault will be targeting primarily small to medium businesses in the immediate five state region of Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas. “Companies have been utilizing the tape backup method for many years that has proven to be unreliable, costly and not very secure. This has been realized this year with companies like Bank of America and Citigroup losing their 1.2 and 3.9 million customers’ data that contained their private data including social security numbers. “Our online service allows companies to have a more reliable, secure and automated process of backing up their data,” says Jim Rutherford. In fact, according to The Gartner Group, “34% of companies fail to test their backups and of those that do, 77% have found tape back up failures.”
One other key product differentiator for CoreVault is that it has its own fiber optic network that runs from Oklahoma City to Amarillo back to Western Oklahoma and then to Oklahoma City. “We feel like this is an important differentiator between us and the competition. We control the data once it hits our network since we own it. Our primary and secondary vault sites are also connected via our own GigE network, which gives us plenty of bandwidth to replicate our data between sites.
