HARD DRIVE CRASH AND COREVAULT RESTORE SAVES DENTAL PRACTICE
THE GOAL
Dr. Mark Vandenberg's 10-year dental practice in Oklahoma City has experienced tremendous growth. From insurance claims to account balances to patient profiles, a tremendous amount of data amassed over the past decade. The goal was to replace the manual zip disk method of back-up that the practice had been using with a more reliable and automated process.
Although he understood the necessity of protecting the volume of patient information flowing through his network, what Dr. Vandenberg did not realize was how close he was to losing all that vital data.
CHALLENGES
With employees rushed at the end of each day, back-up became a low priority, and the all-important, but labor intensive process, became a once per week chore. Dr. Vandenberg, knowing that he was likely losing data, made the decision to change to a more reliable and automated system of back-up, retaining the services of CoreVault. Shortly thereafter, on one fateful Friday evening, that decision proved to be a smart one.
"Our brand new server crashed, and all the data that had been downloaded was absolutely irretrievable," said the doctor.
SOLUTIONS-SERVICE
The doctor's network technicians wanted the data restored ASAP. Given the speed of the doctor's internet connection, CoreVault engineers knew it would have taken hours to restore over the wire. CoreVault decided to write the data to a mobile vault and deliver it to him at our cost. This enabled the recovery to take only minutes.
It was 7:00 on a Friday evening, and our techs contacted CoreVault to make arrangements for the information, which had been backed up the day before, to be restored," he said. "The did just that, and had all the data transferred back to a new server. They really saved our bacon."
RESULTS
Once CoreVault had retrieved the data, Dr. Vandenberg was greatly relieved. CoreVault offers peace of mind solutions that the doctor has grown to appreciate. He is very comfortable with the data being encoded and stored at redundant sites, one being over 120 miles away. "In Oklahoma, with the weather and tornados we have, it just makes sense to have our data stored in multiple locations."
He is also pleased with the email notification feature that is standard with CoreVault's service. "Each day when the back-up occurs, CoreVault sends us a detailed email notifying us that the process is complete," he said. "Every day, if I need the extra reassurance that the back-up was done, I just check my email box."
"It's easy on the pocket book, and very reliable," said Dr. Vandenberg. "We were very smart, and just a little lucky, to have signed up with CoreVault to have our data preserved. It has been a very positive experience. It's been a good thing."
