Deduplication

Big word, simple idea: Maximally efficient backups.

Core Value: Multiple deduplication techniques ensure that we don’t backup the same piece of data in more than one place, which saves bandwidth, storage and money.
Core Benefit:
The fastest, most streamlined and most cost-effective backups.

Data deduplication refers to a reduction in data volume by eliminating redundant data. Clear, right? In fact, it’s a simple principle with even more straightforward benefits. Deduplication means stripping away repeat instances of the same data (AKA duplicate or redundant data), so that any piece of data is backed up just once. As a result, your data protection costs decrease because you spend less on network bandwidth, storage and overhead costs. The more data, the more you save.

Dedupliwhat? Demystifying deduplication

In other backup systems, the backups often end up being larger than the sum of the original data – sometimes significantly larger – because the same pieces of data get backed up over and over, in different places. Unfortunately, you pay for every byte of storage and transmission over the network.

By contrast, data deduplication ensures the most efficient backup by transmitting and storing any piece of data only once. The process is simple:

  1. Only new and changed block level data is backed up.
  2. All data undergoes CoreVault’s proprietary deduplicating algorithms so it’s only backed up once.
  3. Data is further compressed before transmission to save on bandwidth expenses.

Data deduplication is built into every aspect of our data protection. Altogether, it spells cost savings, simplified processes and a smaller, nimbler infrastructure.
