KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Coordinate engineering initiatives with client’s customers & wireline operations team members.
  • Design, engineer, and oversee telecommunication engineering & construction projects to ensure successful compliance of specifications, timelines and budget requirements.
  • Design DWDM optical transport network system, perform design reviews, and install and maintain operational support systems for optical network elements.
  • Understand the study of power and OSNR evolution and impact of spectral management
  • Provide technical expertise and support to various internal departments
  • Knowledge of microwave antenna systems as well as Microwave frequency coordination – via MICS/FCSA;
  • Prepare Request for Proposals/Quotes (RFP/RFQ) to vendors and contracted services
  • Establish & manage project budgets, schedules, produce technical documentation & be capable of overseeing EF&I Projects;
  • Evaluate and manage the implementation of new technologies and processes while participating in selection of service and equipment vendors;
  • Specify and procure hardware as part of project design
  • Work with hardware and software of various optical platforms from pre-deployment certification to installation acceptance.
  • Write detailed Methods of Procedure (MoPs) for implementation and maintenance activity overseeing the compliance of such.
  • Analyze the operation performance of the network elements and compare to expected results. Publish failure analysis and make sparing recommendations.
  • Develop & manage processes, methodologies & optimization requirements for optical transport & Ethernet/IP networks.
  • Develop automation tools for testing, configuration, auditing and monitoring of fault and performance of optical network elements.
  • Investigate long haul optical transmission, including polarization multiplexed advanced modulation formats and coherent systems
  • Quantitative study of system performance under stressed conditions including nonlinearities, CD and PMD, power and polarization transients
  • Optical performance analysis for various fiber types, dispersion maps, neighboring channel signal formats including comparison to simulations
  • Assist in the validation of distributed, link-level optical control systems enabling automated optimization of system performance in dynamic environments.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

The qualified candidate must have:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in transport network planning & engineering
  • Minimum 5 years experience in design, implementation and optimization of microwave networks
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering - telecommunications or equivalent
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of wireless communication components such as antennas, filters, propagation, interference and spectrum management
  • Knowledge of L3/L2 Ethernet AND Ethernet Backhaul
  • Knowledge of DS1, DS3 and OC3 hierarchy and SDM protocols
  • Expertise in Project management
  • Ability to partner/work together with contractors, vendors and peers (locally and remotely)
  • Ability to travel when required
  • IP data networking skills

  • Experience and desire to do scripting/programming with a broad understanding of optical theory and transport technologies and the operation of optical transport DWDM systems
  • Familiarity with TL1, SNMP and/or Element Management Systems and solid optical troubleshooting skills using OTDR, OSA, BERT and optical power meters
  • Knowledge of DWDM transmission systems - design and hands-on testing including EDFAs, Raman amplifiers, ROADMs and transponders
  • Extensive experience with high-speed optical and electrical test and measurement equipment control and data acquisition
  • Ability to lead projects requiring a careful, meticulous approach including documentation and presentation of methods and results
